2024 Student Exhibition

SAFE AND WELL 2

Following the success of last year’s Safe & Well exhibition, presented in a virtual gallery format on the Rails End website, this year’s in-person event invites community members to experience the creativity and insights of local youth directly at the gallery.

The exhibit’s themes draw from the four pillars of the Haliburton County Community Safety and Wellness Plan—a guiding framework in place for several years—interpreted through the eyes of young artists. In 2024 participants are students from Grade 9/10 at Haliburton Highlands Secondary School (Ms. Gervais) and Grade 7B at JD Hodgson Elementary School (Mr. VandenHengel).

The exhibition is presented in partnership by the Trillium Lakelands District School Board Haliburton County Community Safety and Wellness Manager, Sue Tiffin, and Rails End Gallery and Arts Centre. Their collaborative efforts have allowed students to explore and represent important ideas of safety, mental health, community cohesion, and resilience through art.

The Quilt

The students invite visitors to join them in creating quilt squares for their "Quilt Top". This work in progress is a response to the Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan; a metaphor for the comfort and safety that the students envision in a fair, inclusive and equitable future.
